Remote Play Patch for non-VAIO & Vista PC’s

That same hack by NTAuthority can be re-used, with a few extra steps, to enable Remote Play on non-VAIO PC’s running Vista. And if you’re running Vista, for whatever reason, I feel for you. Anyway, here we go:

What you need:

  1. VAIO Remote Play for Windows 7.
    [download]
  2. NTAuthority’s Remote Play Patch.
    [download]
  3. A Hex Editor, like HxD for example.
    [download]
  4. aser32.dll from teraapi’s user32hooking project.
    [download]

What you do:

  1. Follow NTAuthority’s guide first; that involves installing VAIO Remote Play and the initial patching. See here or the included read me.
  2. Install your Hex Editor of choice and open it.
  3. Open the following file in said hex editor:
    • (32 bit):
      “%programfiles%\Sony\Remote Play with PlayStation 3\UFCore.dll”
    • (64 bit):
      “%programfiles(x86)%\Sony\Remote Play with PlayStation 3\UFCore.dll”
  4. Search for the string “USER32″ and replace that string with “ASER32″. Click screenshot to enlarge:

  5. Save UFCore.dll and exit the hex editor.
  6. Copy the aser32.dll to
    • (32 bit):
      “%programfiles%\Sony\Remote Play with PlayStation 3″
    • (64 bit):
      “%programfiles(x86)%\Sony\Remote Play with PlayStation 3″
  7. Run Remote Play and hope for the best.

Note: If you get this error, “Remote Play with Playstation 3 cannot be used in this screen mode. Remote Play with Playstation 3 will quit.” Then change your resolution to something lower than 1920×1200.

I haven’t tested this with Vista — that ain’t me. I can however confirm that NTAuthority’s patch on Windows 7 works great.

Props to ned.smitty for the guide.

Happy Remote Playing!
